Content Analysis of Reminiscence of the dementia Elderly

Abstract
The content of reminiscences of 20 dementia elderly in an dementia care program was examined. Content analysis of transcripts from a semistructured interview was used to dicover categories of reminiscence meaning.
The integrations made about past experiences were grouped under two categories: (a) positive remisceing category that involved confirming or verifying that one had lived a fruitful life ; and (b) negative reminisceing category that involved negative interpretations of past events. Positive reminisceing category were experience of their childbirth, nurturing, make a good marriage their children, early life events of marriage, positive self appraisals, a plenty of hardship, a wide social connections, rememberance of childhood, and pursuit of power from their work.. Negative reminisceing category were losses and unfulfillment regrects.
The most meaningful and fruitful memories were primarily from the subjects adolescence and early adulthood.
When nurses perform reminiscence therapy with the dementia elderly, they should encourge them to reminisce about this themes and their experances of adolescence and early adulthod to enhance their cognitive functions.
